Comics

Jim Dodson is the owner of a comic book store that is heavily bombarded with comics, trading cards and posters. They sell comics and occasionally give books and comics to libraries. Jim loves selling comics books, but not enough to collect them.

Comics' #1 selling books are "Transformers",
"X-Men," and " The Ultimate/Amazing Spider-Man." They have a table where the kids can hang out and play "Lord of the Rings (the trading card game)." There are volunteer opportunities for young people such as work-study.

"Comics" has been on Baltimore Ave. for 9yrs. in the basement and 10 more yrs. on the top floor. It adds up to 19 years at that location.

Jim's reasons for locating here are " I like being close to UMD, I rented a room at the Stamp Student Union for $50 a day to see if there's a market for comics and there was." Jim started his business in the basement. Then over time, he built it up to make it upstairs. He originally wanted to become a writer or wood worker before a comic seller/collector.

When we asked him what he thought about the neighborhood, he said, "College Park is a very good place, you got students, people who buy comics here, and lawyers." Comics is a major asset to Prince George's County.
