Name of Person Interviewed:
Jane Welsh The College Park Aviation Museum, a piece of aviation history, belongs to this facility. Within the 27,000 square foot facility is the history of the College Park Airport, the oldest continuously running airport in the world. The College Park Aviation Museum started off in an annex in the College Park Airport; it was much smaller than today's museum. When you step into the Aviation Museum you'll most likely notice the little store that houses all kinds of aviation memorabilia (I guess you can call it that) from old plane models, to T-Shirts, to dolls. You'll find just about anything for sale to make your trip to the museum a memorable one. However, before you can step foot into that little shop or anywhere else in the museum for that matter, you'll need to pay up. The admission fees are $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $2 for children, and groups (10+ people) get a discount of $3 a person. The actual museum exhibits are wonders in themselves. One of the first exhibits you may see is a step back in time. A realistic looking doll will take you back to the beginning of the airport and tell you a bit about it. I'm telling you this so you won't be surprised, because the doll is motion activated. He sports an old look with his clothes and even the exhibit itself is on an old wooden floorboard. Stepping out of the exhibit you'll come to the plane exhibit. The planes you'll see are not the standard lot. Since the College Park Airport is the place where the Wright Brothers flew out, an exact replica of the plane is on display. You'll also find
the actual helicopter of the first controlled helicopter flight, which
took place in the College Park Airport. Now the museum isn't all about
history. There are also many programs and activities for the kiddies.
So no one will be left out. Employees of the museum are also working on
a site for the museum so anything else you want to know about the museum
can be found there once it is complete. When the site is finished a link
will be posted in this article. |
